The learner experience on DiscoverLink Talent has been redesigned to increase engagement, improve communication, and facilitate gamification. The new My Training page features:

Anniversary announcements

New My Training UI Available for Level 5 Admins

The new My Training user interface has been launched to Level 5 administrators only. It can be accessed by navigating to the My Training page, and then clicking the “New UI” link in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. This early access is provided so you can prepare your campus before it is exposed to other roles in the organization. You can toggle back and forth between the new UI and the current UI so you can easily see what learners are currently seeing at any time.

When your campus is ready to go, just let your client services manager know the date you would like to make the switch for your learners (any time after February 15th). If we don’t hear from you within the next few weeks, we will automatically turn on the new UI for your learners and other roles on March 8th.

Choice of List or Grid View

The first thing you probably noticed is the new learning program images in the grid layout. The learner can choose between that view and the list view, depicted below. The list view may feel more familiar to learners since it is more similar to the current UI, so that is the default view upon first login. After switching to the grid view, if the learner logs out, that will become their new default view.

The list view features content item images that scroll when you click on the arrow overlaying the far-right image. You can also navigate to the next set of content items by using the navigation dots above the far-right image.

Things to Think About in Preparation

There are a number of things you’ll want to consider as you start working with the new UI. Here’s a handy checklist as you’re working to prepare your campus:

Thumbnail Images for Learning Programs

Learning programs will automatically have a default image applied to them that you can choose to use as is or change. If you would like to customize the images for your learning program, you can do so on the new Image tab that has been added to the Add/Edit Learning Program feature in Manage Content. There are more than 175 images available to choose from, or you can upload your own.

The image with the green border is the default image for all learning programs, but it can easily be changed by:

Selecting from one of the general learning program images shown
Exploring other categories of images grouped by skill positions and other topics
Uploading your own image, which will then become available for other learning programs too

Uploaded image size is restricted to 5MB and must be JPG, GIF, or PNG files. Cropping can occur upon upload (tool provided) and the system will resize appropriately to 360 x 240 pixels.

Thumbnail Images for Content Items

Each content type has a default thumbnail image that is automatically applied to existing and new content items. Like the learning program images, these can be swapped out with one of the 100+ images arranged by content type that we provide or your own uploaded image.

When you add or edit a content item you will see a mini-thumbnail of the current default image for that item. You can click on it to see a larger view or click the pencil icon to change it.

The default image is highlighted in green, and you’ll see other available options provided for that content type, or you can choose to upload your own.

Eventually, all of the courses in the DiscoverLink Content Library will, by default, have a screenshot from the course as its thumbnail image. This feature will be added over the course of the coming month, so you do not need to update images on DiscoverLink Courses if you do not want to. However, if you are eager to roll out the new UI soon and would like access to the DiscoverLink Content Library thumbnail images so you can upload them manually, please contact your client services manager.

Duration for Content Items & Learning Programs

Optionally, you can choose to add durations for content items and/or learning programs. If you do not add them, this information will not show up on your thumbnail images.

You can choose to include duration only on content items, only on learning programs, or on both, depending on your needs. Duration is a 15-digit text field that does not automatically sum.

Leaderboard & Knowledge Score

By default, the new Leaderboard will appear at the top of the My Training page, showing the employees at the location with the top five totals for Knowledge Score. The top ten employees are shown in the Trophy Case, and the full Leaderboard list can viewed by clicking the + More link.

Employees who do not have a profile picture uploaded are displayed with their initials instead, and a rollover shows their full name and accomplishment details.

If you do not wish to show the Leaderboard on your campus, your client services manager can turn it off. If you do choose to use it, you will want to ensure your content items have Knowledge Scores applied.

Also, if you currently use a campus-wide avatar for the profile image, you can ask your client services manager to remove it so the learners’ initials will display if they have not uploaded their own profile image.

Message Center

By default, the new Message Center will appear on the left-hand side, showing a preview of the most recent unread message. If you do not want it to appear, you can ask your client services manager to remove it for your campus. Clicking on the Message Center in the side or on the Messages icon in the top navigation will open the full Messages view.

Birthdays & Anniversaries

By default, birthdays and anniversaries will appear on the left-hand side under Message Center for one day. If you do not want them to appear, you can ask your client services manager to remove one or both from your campus. If you would like to keep them, you may want to check to make sure your employees have birthdates and start dates in their employee profiles. If you need to add them, your client services manager can arrange to have them bulk uploaded to your campus.

Clicking on a birthday opens a new message with a birthday wish for that person and clicking on an anniversary does the same.

New Navigation & Language Access

With this new My Training design, you may have noticed that several other navigational elements have moved around. First, the navigation that was formerly in the left-hand column is now in the form of icons across the top of the page.

Second, some less-often used navigational elements have been moved from the top bar to a dropdown next to the learner’s name.

Last, the language selector for content items now appears next to the globe icon in the lower left corner of the thumbnail image, when alternate languages are available for that item.

What’s Next?

That’s up to you! We have designed this release so that you can choose to do absolutely nothing, and when the new UI goes live for learners and other roles on March 8^th, they will see default images with no durations. If your campus does not have Knowledge Scores or birthdays populated we will remove the Leaderboard and Birthday from your campus before exposing it to your learners.

Keep in mind that If you choose to remove the Message Center, Birthdays, and Anniversaries from your campus, your learning programs and content items will display across the full width of the page, as shown below. Each of those items as well as the Leaderboard can be toggled on or off independently.

On the other hand, if you are eager to turn this new UI on for your learners as soon as February 15th, contact your client services manager to communicate any feature on/off decisions and coordinate a go-live date.
